Cable Beach Club Resort was filmed over three days in Broome on the Canon C500 camera.

I was director/producer/camera person/editor. I loved every role.

Great assistance from two media students each day from the local high St Mary’s High School. All talent were teachers and their families from the same school.

Wonderful support and assistance from my dear friends Sean and Seanette. Executive assistant was Simon Proud. Wonderful faith from Scot Griffin and John Petkovic at Agency Workhouse Advertising.

Workhouse Ad Agency/Client brief: a 3-4 minute promo highlighting Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa.

Talent sourced from my dear friend Simon’s cycling buddies, one of which was a teacher at the local Broome St Mary’s Catholic College, plus other teachers and their kids. None had been in front of a camera before. Crew was made up of media students from the same school (2 each day) and 2 dear friends, Keith & Yolande. They too had never been on a film set.
The result?
This 7 minute director’s cut, out of which came a raft of 90 second films, an in-room promo(plays on the tele when you check into your room),
a staff feel-good video, videos on food, resort activities, restaurants, accommodation, and surrounding tourism which was taken from footage I shot when I was in Broome and surrounding countryside 2 weeks before the shoot. It’s a timing thing.
Then there were 15 second cut downs of everything…and a TV commercial.
Shot on the Canon C500 with 4 of my L series lenses: the 24-70mm 2.8, the 70-200mm 2.8, 50mm 1.2 and the 14mm 2.8.
Never used the camera before the shoot. I got to learn pretty damn quick.
Plus my Phantom 3 Drone with a 4k camera on board.
Oh and a Contour camera for the underwater stuff.

For the students and budding enthusiasts, I shot everything wide open at 2.8.
You’ll notice pretty much all shots were either tracking on a camera dolly (Wayne Waller’s Wolly Dolly), or off a Manfrotto monopod.
For me, it makes a huge difference to the visual story.
Cable Beach Club Resort was all shot using available light; either sunlight, candles or in-situ practical lights.

Special thanks to Scot and John from Workhouse, Cable Beach Club client Kristi, Jessica and Belle, my student crew from St Patrick’s Catholic College, dear friends Keith & Yolande, enormous thanks to dear friend Simon for organising the talent…..and the talent. You were all so special.
Plus the wonderful people at the resort; always a smile, nothing ever a problem.
Enough of the sell, hope you all enjoy. Cable Beach Club Resort.
